Our History

In 2016, Koreisha Senior Care & Advocacy (KSCA) became a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charity organization based in Los Angeles, California.

The organization was born out of a community grassroots movement that advocated for the safety and wellbeing of the seniors in the Japanese American communities.

This was also a time when all four senior facilities owned by Keiro were sold to a for-profit organization, leaving the Nikkei community with a severe shortage of facility-based care for older adults.

KSCA 's mission was to build a skilled nursing home with bilingual capability (Japanese and English) and with a culturally sensitive environment to accommodate the most vulnerable Nikkei seniors.  A Task Force was formed to search for a location to start the Adult Day Care Program and to build the nursing home.  Such a location was found in the historic Seinan district of Los Angeles with deep roots in Japanese American history.  A partnership was formed with the Seinan Senior Citizens Club in 2024 and this was followed by a merger of the two organizations.  The new organization was named Seinan Koreisha Senior Care.

The Adult Day Program will start in 2026 at the Seinan Center site on West Jefferson Boulevard in the heart of Los Angeles."

Our vision

Seinan Koreisha Senior Care will soon kick off a Capital Campaign called "Furusato LA". "Furusato" in Japanese means ”one's home" or "a place where one belongs". The campaign is to raise funds to build a 100 bed skilled nursing home which will have bilingual capability (English and Japanese) and a culturally sensitive environment.  The facility will serve the most vulnerable seniors to feel at "home" as they face the twilight years of their lives.  The residents will receive services from caring and respectful health care providers, staff. qualified interns and volunteers.  Meals will be planned to be both nutritious and culturally familiar to them. Special cultural events will be celebrated to make the residents feel deeply connected to their roots.  The facility will embrace the traditional Japanese values of respect to the elders and paying close attention to their needs."
